【Regarding lacquerware】
Precautions for Using Lacquerware
- If the ware is used incorrectly, it may damage the product or cause injury. Please use it correctly according to its intended purpose and usage.
- Do not use over direct flames, in microwave ovens, or in ovens.
- It's acceptable to pour hot liquids into bowls or cups. However, do not pour extremely hot liquids like freshly boiled water, as this may cause the lacquer to discolor to white, which unfortunately cannot be restored. If concerned, pouring lukewarm water first can avoid sudden temperature changes.
- If there are cracks or fractures in the lacquerware, we recommend replacing it promptly. Depending on the situation, refinishing or repair may be possible; please consult our store or a nearby lacquerware specialist.
- Low-temperature usage is acceptable, but if used after being refrigerated, please note that cracks may occur due to the drying of the lacquerware.
- Do not leave lacquerware submerged in water or with water-containing items for extended periods.
- Lacquerware is naturally durable, so it is fine to use it with vinegar or oily substances. However, we do not recommend leaving them stored in it for prolonged periods.
Cleaning and Wiping Lacquerware
- It is fine to wash lacquerware with kitchen neutral detergent and a soft sponge.
- Avoid soaking it in water for extended periods.
- Lacquer is softer compared to ceramics, so wash it separately from items like pottery.
- After washing, wiping with a cloth rather than air-drying will help preserve the lacquer.
- For valuable items with intricate designs like Maki-e, wash them gently with gauze and wipe with a soft cloth.
- When wiping off moisture, pay special attention to corners and bottoms of items like Jubako and bowls, where water tends to accumulate.
- Avoid using dishwashers and dryers. Dishwashers have strong detergents unsuitable for lacquer, and dryers may deform the material. We do not highly recommend using them.
Storage of Lacquerware
- Since ultraviolet light is harmful to lacquer coatings, store them in a cupboard away from direct sunlight.
- If stacking to prevent scratches or impacts, place cloth or paper between lacquerware items.
- Lacquerware dislikes extreme dryness, so if not used for a long time, place a cup with some water in the cupboard to maintain humidity.
Rather than storing them away indefinitely, using lacquerware daily in your everyday life can prevent drying and is beneficial for the lacquerware. It's indeed the most suitable method for its storage.
