A Soul-Soothing Journey in Aso – Bonding with Horses, Strolling Through Hot Spring Villages, and Watching Koinobori Dance in the Sky
If you're thinking about traveling to Japan, how about spending a day exploring the Aso area? Surrounded by the vast nature of Mount Aso, you can bond with adorable horses, take a leisurely stroll through charming hot spring towns, and witness traditional koinobori (carp streamers) gracefully swimming in the sky. It’s a day of pure relaxation for both body and soul.
A Gentle Morning with Horses at Kusasenri
Our journey began in the morning at Kusasenri, a vast green meadow where horses peacefully graze. Spending time with these gentle creatures in the stillness of the morning, feeding them and watching their calm movements, was an experience full of peace and healing. It was so soothing that time seemed to slip away unnoticed.
On the way to our next destination, we drove through "Milk Road." The view of rolling hills stretching endlessly is truly breathtaking, and I couldn’t help but let out a little "Wow!" It’s one of those places where you feel happy just gazing at the scenery during the drive.
A Leisurely Stroll Through Kurokawa Onsen
After our wonderful time at Kusasenri, we headed to Kurokawa Onsen. This quiet, picturesque hot spring village feels like something straight out of a fairytale. Walking along the stone-paved streets while watching the steam rise from the baths gives the whole place a special, almost magical feeling.
We stopped by some of the charming little shops along the way, offering handmade local crafts and sweets. Just browsing through them filled my heart with joy. Of course, we also made sure to dip into one of the many hot springs, warming up and completely relaxing. Kurokawa Onsen is the perfect spot when you need to unwind.
Be Amazed by Koinobori Flying in the Sky at Tsuetate Onsen
Our final stop was Tsuetate Onsen, where we were lucky enough to witness the "Koinobori Festival" that takes place from early April to early May. Countless koinobori were gently swimming in the air above the river. The colorful koinobori stretched across the sky were so beautiful, I couldn’t help but keep looking up in awe. As they fluttered in the breeze, it felt like they were actually swimming through the sky, and the sight left me with a warm, happy feeling.
If you’re visiting Tsuetate Onsen, this time of year is especially recommended. Watching the koinobori swim with such energy is a sight you’ll never forget. Be sure to experience this unique and special event during your spring trip to Tsuetate Onsen.
This journey through Aso, with its beautiful nature, relaxing hot springs, and touch of Japanese tradition, was a wonderful experience that healed both my body and spirit. It’s a place where you can discover a new side of Japan, so I highly recommend planning a trip to Aso.
